Close to a Stake VIP level? The strategy that costs least

Rakeback Paid · Updated 2026-09-11

Short version. Work out the exact dollars remaining, switch the remaining wagering to the lowest house-edge game you will actually play, use sports turnover if you bet sports anyway (it counts three times), keep bet size flat, and time the level-up so a losing stretch lands in a week the weekly boost will see. Never increase stakes to "get there faster": progress counts wagering, not speed, and bigger bets only add variance.

Step 1: get the number, not the percentage

The VIP page shows a percentage between levels. Turn it into dollars: (next threshold − current threshold) × (1 − progress). At 62% from Silver ($50,000) to Gold ($100,000), the gap is $50,000 and $19,000 remains. Everything below is about spending as little as possible to wager that $19,000.

Step 2: pick the cheapest road

Route for the last $19,000House edgeExpected costNotes
Live blackjack, basic strategy~0.5 to 0.6%~$100 to $115Slow (one hand at a time) and needs discipline.
Dice, Limbo, Plinko low risk, Mines 1 mine1%$190Fast, low variance at high win chance. Rakeback returns $6.65.
Sports at ~4% margin (counts 3x)~4%~$250 on $6,333 turnoverOnly $6,333 needed. Worth it if you bet sports anyway.
Slots at 96% RTP4%$760Four times the Originals cost for the same progress.
Slot bonus buys4 to 6%$760 to $1,140Highest variance too. Worst route.

Step 3: choose low variance, not low stakes

Progress needs a certain amount of wagering; it does not care about bet size. What bet size changes is variance: the chance you bust before you get there. On Dice at a 90% win chance the multiplier is 1.1x and the swings are small, so a modest bankroll survives $19,000 of turnover. At a 10% win chance the multiplier is 9.9x and the same bankroll can be gone in a hundred bets. Same 1% edge, wildly different risk of ruin. The dice simulator shows this: run 5,000 bets at both settings and compare how often the bankroll survives.

Flat bets. Martingale and other "recovery" systems do not change the expected loss (still 1% of turnover) but they concentrate the risk into a few catastrophic bets, and one of those bets will eventually exceed your bankroll or the table max.

Step 4: use the calendar

Weekly boosts are calculated on the week's wagering, level and profit or loss, and losing weeks pay more. If the last stretch of a climb is a losing stretch, having it fall inside a single week rather than straddling two Saturday cut-offs tends to be rewarded better. The same logic applies to the monthly bonus and the mid-month payment. This is a small effect and not worth forcing; it is worth knowing when you would otherwise split the wagering across the cut-off for no reason.

Step 5: claim rakeback and switch it on early

Rakeback (3.5% of the house edge) accrues per bet from Bronze. If you registered with an affiliate code, message support with the affiliate's Stake username and it can be switched on before Bronze. On $19,000 of Originals play that is $6.65; on $19,000 of slots it is $26.60. Small, but it is free and it compounds over a long climb.

What not to do

  1. Don't raise stakes to finish faster. Speed doesn't count; wagering does. Bigger bets just risk more of the bankroll per unit of progress.
  2. Don't play a game you don't enjoy at 1% edge for weeks to save $500. Time has a cost too; pick the cheapest route among games you'll actually sit through.
  3. Don't fund the last stretch with money set aside for something else. The level-up bonus at Gold is around $50; it will not pay you back.
  4. Don't chase the deposit-and-withdraw loop thinking deposits count. They don't.

Questions people ask

What is the cheapest game to climb Stake VIP levels?

Live blackjack played to basic strategy (about 0.5 to 0.6% house edge) or Stake Originals at 1% such as Dice, Limbo and Plinko. Slots at 4% cost roughly four times as much for the same progress.

Does bet size affect Stake VIP progress?

No. Progress counts total wagering. Bet size only changes variance, so larger bets raise the chance of busting before the level without moving the bar any faster per dollar.

Do sports bets help reach a Stake VIP level faster?

Yes, sportsbook wagers count three times toward progress, so $6,333 of sports turnover equals $19,000 of casino wagering.

Does martingale help reach a VIP level?

No. It leaves expected loss unchanged at the house edge times turnover and concentrates risk into a few very large bets.
